OE Procurement Initiative

The OE Procurement Initiative has focused on providing an easy-to-use, well-defined system for procuring goods will not only make it easier to save the campus money, but will also save faculty and staff time -- time that they can use to focus on their teaching, research, and service to students and the campus community.

To accomplish this vision, the procurement initiative has these broad goals:

  1. To assess the campus-wide spending base in key categories, and identify methods for reducing spending in those categories
  2. To review current procurement processes and simplify or modify them to reduce work and improve the procurement experience
  3. To support the deployment of a technological tool to facilitate the procurement process
  4. To define the optimal role for procurement as a campus function and most appropriate structure

What is BearBuy?

BearBuy is an e-procurement solution that will provide campus employees with an intuitive, easy to use interface that will make the purchasing process easier and faster.  When the new system is complete, it will become the single point of entry where faculty, staff and students at both UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley will go to shop and manage payment for most of their campus-related purchases.

The new system will save the campus money by offering shoppers the opportunity to purchase goods and services from a selection of vendors that have offered the campus discounted rates, and will provide an accurate mechanism for keeping track of what we buy and how much we spend, thereby improving our ability to negotiate volume discounts.

BearBuy is here!

Who’s in the BearBuy work group?

The BearBuy project team is part of the larger OE Finance and Procurement initiatives at UCSF and UC Berkeley and is comprised of University of California employees from both campuses, as well as specialized implementation consultants. The BearBuy project team has been charged with developing and implementing an easy-to-use, well-defined system for procuring goods that will make it easier to save money and save faculty and staff time -- time that they can use to focus on their teaching, research, and service to students and the campus community.
