In January and February, UCSF Human Resources, Serving the Academic and Staff Community, conducted a series of orientations and technology demonstrations to help departments assigned to Service Centers B-E prepare for the transition to HR shared services. Please note these links require that you login to MyAccess.
- Service Centers B-E Go Live Orientation: The orientations provided departmental business officers, finance and other departmental leadership with basic information about the go live dates and process, service level agreements, billing procedures and departmental transition tools such as process maps.
- HR Service Request System Demonstration: Demonstrations of the HR Service Request System provided department managers and key staff with an overview of how the tool works and the critical business process planning steps departments should take to prepare to use the tool for requesting and tracking requests for HR service. Please note that there were technical difficulties during this recording in which can be fast forward through.
- MPM Demonstration: Demonstrations of the Magical PAF Machine (MPM) showed how this critical tool for processing faculty payroll works and provided key departmental planning information.
The Operational Excellence for Human Resources initiative is well on its way to full implementation. Significant events in January included:

Service Center A and Academic specialty center opened for business in January 2012.
- Trained Service Center A workforce and Academic Affairs specialists in staff and academic processes and procedures, including how to utilize technology - first comprehensive training of this workforce
- Launched HR Service Request System to enable initiation and tracking of service requests
- Transferred over 4500 personnel files from Service Center A departments to Laurel Heights
- We learned a lot from Service Center A Go Live and are debriefing key groups to refine plans for the go lives of Service Center B-E. We are adapting our timelines, templates, materials and approach based on this valuable feedback.
- Launched a series of Orientation meetings and technology demonstrations to provide department MSOs and key staff with a broad overview of the go live process, service level agreements, billing, and tools and technology available to support the transition and on-going operations.
