Barbara Harkonen, Director of Service Center D

Barbara Harkonen brings over 27 years experience to her new role as Director of Service Center D in the new UCSF Human Resources service center.  Barbara’s experience includes 15 years at UCSF.     Her career has included time with several Bay Area biotech companies including Baxter Healthcare Corp., Hyland Division.  In addition, Barbara was the Senior Director of Administrative Services for the American Red Cross Holland Laboratory in Maryland.  Her UCSF experience includes four years as the Business Manager in the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Faculty Practice at SFGH, and nine years in the Office of Research as the Chief Administrative Officer and as Human Resources Director.  For the past year, Barbara has served as the Human Resources Manager for the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Office HR Service Center.  Her varied background and experience will ensure her success in her position.

Barbara is looking forward to working closely and building strong relationships with the departments and schools in her cluster.  Listening to their needs and fostering open communication will guide the development of our new HR shared service organization.  It will be challenging not to have all the answers or processes in place, but Barbara believes in the commitment to work together to reassure clients, strengthen service levels and build trust.
